I plan on reducing spending in unrestricted funds by 5-10% per year.
There is so little private property in Alaska that the revenue, to the state, is small. A person should be entitled to his/her property and it should not be taken away for tax bills. Gas and oil are necessities and taxes should be greatly lowered. Alcohol and cigarettes are not necessities. Corporations are the only taxpayers in Alaska, but taxes should be lower to favor business.

a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?

No 1) Individual
No 2) Political Action Committee

Yes c) Do you support requiring full and timely disclosure of campaign finance information?
Yes d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
Alaska issues a voter identification card. This card should be the minimum that is necessary, with photo ID as a backup, in case the voter is not carrying his/her card. You have to have ID to apply for the voter card.

No e) Do you support government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes f) Do you support providing direct financial assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure?
No g) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage?
Re-training displaced workers would fall under student financial aid which is covered in Education issues, below. All "subsidies" to homeowners or private businesses should be presented as "no-interest" loans that will eventually be repaid to the State. Job creation has no purpose if the job cannot be sustained by increased revenue to the business.
No a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?
No b) Do you support a merit pay system for teachers?
No c) Is the tenure process for public school teachers producing effective teachers?
No d) Should parents be allowed to use vouchers to send their children to any school?
Yes e) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes f) Do you support the state government providing college students with financial aid?
Yes g) Should illegal immigrants who graduate from Alaska high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Vouchers or scholarships should be provided through the local school districts only to students whose needs cannot be met by the public school choices, and should not be equivalent to the full student allotment. College financial aid should only be provided to students who choose careers that have an average or better rate of employee hiring. Interest rates for student loans should be extremely low.

Yes b) Should same-sex couples be allowed to form civil unions?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Alaska's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes d) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Alaska's anti-discrimination laws?
Anti-discrimination laws should not force private businesses to sell/manufacture products that were not being sold before the law was passed. Private businesses may specify in their dress codes and codes of conduct what employees can and cannot do.
My top priority is to trim the budget and to eliminate the deficit spending that characterized the current administration. My other priorities are individual rights and economic freedom. To ensure individual rights, I would encourage legislation for school choice, marriage/partnership recognition, parental rights, self-defense, and religious freedom. Economic freedom is best provided through lowering taxes and eliminating regulations that interfere with the free market.
